HARDWORK not secret to SUCCESS

One of Jesus Christ disciples, Simon Peter will be examined in today's message: HARD WORK not secret to SUCCESS.

The New Testament indicates that Peter was the son of John from the village of Bethsaida in the province of Galilee or Gaulanitis. Peter originally was a fisherman.

In his encounter with Jesus before he became a disciple, Jesus amazed Simon and his companions James and John when he told them to lower their nets, whereupon they catch a huge number of fish. Immediately after this, they follow him. [Lk. 5:4-11]

In the passage above he (Jesus Christ) said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.”  In verse 6 - 7, It was recorded that; "And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink."

Peter was awestruck by the size of their catch that he fell down on his knees at the feet of Jesus.

Many people believe riches or success comes from their hard work, they believe Christendom is for the poor. So are too busy chasing after their businesses rather than become disciplines of the LORD.

Even in Church, I hear people say, I need to attend this meeting or open my shop to sell this and that before day break. They forget it is the GOOD LORD that indeed provides and brings customers.

A true Christian knows that God comes first, after all is it not him who brings the customers.

Sometimes, I also hear people say if I start sales before 6am, I will sell all my products before 12pm, but when I visit their shops, I find them restless and confused because they have not meet their required target. Some get so upset that they even go as far as to structure a 24hours business plan.

Peter had toiled all night with his net with no success. Please do not get me wrong, hard work is needed in every business venture but it is more paramount to put God first in your business.

When you think hard work alone is all you need to succeed, you will fail.

Let’s be reminded that Peter was a fisherman by trade. He knew fish, he knew boating, he knew nets and he knew the waters. He was an expert in his field so when he met Jesus Christ who was not a fellow fisherman colleague, he had to explained to him that casting his net at that time of the day was not part of what he (Peter) had learnt.

Nevertheless, Jesus Christ who the Bible never recorded as a fisherman insisted, "Now go out where it is deeper and let down your nets, and you will catch many fish."

This is a clear indication that OUR LORD knows every trade, every single business venture, I call him "THE ALL KNOWING". As the SON of GOD the Creator, Jesus knows where the fishes are in the Lake of Gennesaret, a power Peter obviously lacks. And Jesus commanded all the fishes to enter Peter's net.

Notice that Peter’s mindset was based upon what he knew about fish. Fish come to the surface to feed at night and they had fished through the night in a certain area with no success. Now it was daylight, and this teacher wanted them to try again.

The outcome of this miracle let Peter to respect OUR LORD till his death, according to Christian tradition; Peter was crucified in Rome under Emperor Nero Augustus Caesar. It is traditionally held that he was crucified upside down at his own request, since he saw himself unworthy to be crucified in the same way as Jesus Christ.

David writes: "You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen—even . . . the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the seas" (Psalm 8:6-8).

Trust in Lord today and invite him to your business, however unsuccessful you may have been, you are sure to succeed when He is there!  He will open your eyes to that area you neglect. Yes! and you will succeed beyond your expectations.
